SHYLOCK
Gaoler, look to him: tell not me of mercy;
Jailer, watch out for him. Don’t speak of mercy;
This is the fool that lent out money gratis:
This is the fool that lent out money free.
Gaoler, look to him.
So, watch him, jailer.
ANTONIO
Hear me yet, good Shylock.
Hear me out, good Shylock.
SHYLOCK
I'll have my bond; speak not against my bond:
I’ll have my bond; don’t try to talk me round;
I have sworn an oath that I will have my bond.
I’ve sworn an oath that I will have my bond.
Thou call'dst me dog before thou hadst a cause;
You called me dog before you needed me;
But, since I am a dog, beware my fangs:

The duke shall grant me justice. I do wonder,

Thou naughty gaoler, that thou art so fond
You stupid jailer, why you are so foolish

SHYLOCK
I'll have my bond; I will not hear thee speak:

I'll not be made a soft and dull-eyed fool,
I’ll not be taken for an idiot,
To shake the head, relent, and sigh, and yield
And shake my head, relenting, giving in
To Christian intercessors. Follow not;
To Christian mediators. Do not follow;
I'll have no speaking: I will have my bond.
I won’t be spoken to; I’ll have my bond.

SALARINO
It is the most impenetrable cur
That is the most cantankerous old dog
That ever kept with men.
Who’s hung around with men.
ANTONIO
Let him alone:
Leave him alone.
I'll follow him no more with bootless prayers.
I’ll follow him no more with futile begging.
He seeks my life; his reason well I know:
He wants to take my life, and I know why:
I oft delivered from his forfeitures
I’ve often paid off money owed to him
Many that have at times made moan to me;
By people who’ve complained of him to me.
Therefore he hates me.
That’s why he hates me.
SALARINO
I am sure the duke
I am sure the duke
Will never grant this forfeiture to hold.
Will never let the forfeit be committed.
ANTONIO
The duke cannot deny the course of law:
The duke cannot deny the rule of law.
For the commodity that strangers have
For trust that has been earned from foreigners
With us in Venice, if it be denied,
